Thomas

that he was created capable of being; expand, if possible to his full
growth and show himself at length in his own shape and stature be what
they may.” In order to fulfill this mission the

L.
Maher

Does
the James L. Maher center encourage independence for individuals with
disabilities?
The
James
L.
Maher
Center
strongly adheres to that principle as expressed by Thomas Carlyle “Let
each become all that he was created capable to being.” We couldn’t
agree more.
Our
mission is to provide opportunities as well as choices, to teach the
decision making process so that good decisions can be made.
It is then our responsibility to accept those decisions once made.
In
the continuation of Thomas Carlyle’s quote he goes on to say “expand,
if possible to his full growth and show himself in his own shape and
stature be what they may.”
To
the
James
L.
Maher
Center
this part of the quote reflects our responsibility to provide programs and
opportunities that allows each person to grow and to become as independent
as they can be. We believe
that each person is different, and that we need to create different
opportunities and expect different choices and decisions.
Recognizing
that each person is different in terms of their needs and wants, we have
developed and we continue to develop a variety of options and choices.
