Diane Martellino Smyth…lifelong resident of Newport, is married to Harry Smyth. Diane is the mother of five children and grandmother to five grandchildren.
Diane has been a member of the James L. Maher Center Board of Directors since 1990 and has served as past Secretary to the Board.
She retired in 2004 from the Newport School Department working in special education. She is a member of the executive Board of AFCME Local Union 841. She is a past member of the Selection Committee for hiring Special Education Teachers and Para Educators in the Newport School Department.
Diane served as the co-chairperson of the Newport Parent Advisory Committee for Special Education in the Newport School Department. As a member of this Parent Advisory Committee she had the privilege of addressing members of the Rhode Island General Assembly regarding special education for the Newport School Department.
